  • This product can be used and the apps can be downloaded only in Japan, the US, and Canada because of the Radio law certifications. Please do not use this product other than in Japan, the US, and Canada.

Main Features

  • By linking to the ADVANCE SYSTEM, your iOS/Android device can show you vehicle information (from sensors)
    Just connecting the SMART ADAPTER W to the ADVANCE Unit, the SMART ADAPTER W can transmit information on the Unit sensors to an iOS/Android device.
    By installing the dedicated App, meters or graphs can be displayed on the screen.
  • By acquiring vehicle information from the OBDII connecter, compared with the sensor connecting, it is much easier to get information at low cost.
    It can transmit vehicle information to your iOS/Android device without the ADVANCE SYSTEM if the OBDII follows ISO-CAN specification.

How to connect

There’re three ways of connecting.

1. Connection to the ADVANCE SYSTEM(DF14501 recommended product)

Information acquired by ADVANCE Unit sensors, such as temperatures or pressures, can be transmitted to an iOS /Android device.

  • If you connect the SMART ADAPTER W to the ADVANCE SYSTEM, the ADVANCE Control Unit and its sensors are necessary.

2.Connection to OBDII(DF14502 recommended product)

When connecting the SMART ADAPTER W to the in-vehicle OBDII connector, ISO-CAN information, (e.g., throttle calibration), will be transmitted to an iOS/Android mobile device.
Compared with the sensor connecting like the ADVANCE SYSTEM, it is easier for you to draw out vehicle information at low cost.

  • Please make sure that your vehicle is applicable before purchasing.
  • The ADVANCE SYSTEM is not necessary if you use the only OBDII.
  • Some display items of the OBDII connector are different from the ADVANCE SYSTEM.
  • You need an OBDII wire harness when connecting the OBDII connector. If you buy the SMART ADAPTER W (DF14501) only, please purchase the OBDII wire harness.

3. Connection to both the ADVANCE SYSTEM and the OBDII connector (DF14502 recommended product)

This adapter can transmit vehicle data obtained from both the ADVANCE SYSTEM and the OBDII simultaneously. It means, two data can be used in combination.(Mix mode)

  • Please make sure that your vehicle is applicable before purchasing.
  • You need an OBDII wire harness when connecting the OBDII connector. If you buy the SMART ADAPTER W (DF14501) only, please purchase the OBDII wire harness.
  • The signal data sent from OBDII to SMART ADAPTER W are output to only smartphone/tablet not ADVANCE system.

    It can display digital values or graphs based on sensor data obtained from the ADVANCE or the OBD.

  • Before running the App, please read App’s precautions.After you’re in agreement with it, please use Apps.
  • The screen display is fixed and landscape. App display area will be expanded/contracted by the linkage with the display size. In the case that aspect ratio doesn’t match (fit)to the screen ratio, the screen sides will be in black.

  • Sensors are necessary for the ADVANCE SYSTEM.
  • Some gauges’ items of OBDII can’t be displayed even if the list is “A”.

Wiring

There are three connecting methods.

Wiring

1.How to acquire data from the ADVANCE SYSTEM

Connecting the SMART ADAPTER W to the ADVANCE SYSTEM, information the ADVANCE Unit acquires by sensors (e.x. Temperatures and Pressures) can be transmitted to an iOS/Android mobile device via Bluetooth.
When connecting to the ADVANCE SYSTEM, all things you do is to attach it to the meter line of the ADVANCE Unit.

  • After turning the ignition on, it takes about 10 seconds for the active indicator to start blinking, which means it is in the wait state of pairing and connection.
  • Only one SMART ADAPTER W can be connected to one ADVANCE SYSTEM.
  • Up to 7 pcs in total (gauges, displays, and this adapter) can be connected to one ADVANCE SYSTEM.
  • The SMART ADAPTER W has only one connector for the meter wire line, so it needs to be connected to the end of the meter line.

2.How to acquire data from the in-vehicle OBDII connector

When connecting the SMART ADAPTER W to the OBDII connector, it can transmit ISO-CAN information (e.g. throttle calibration) to an iOS/Android mobile device.
When connecting to the OBDII connector, its power is supplied from the in-vehicle cigar socket. And then, please insert the OBDII wire harness into the OBDII connector.

  • After turning the ignition on, it takes about 10 seconds for the active indicator to start blinking, which means it is in the wait state of pairing and connection.
  • The OBDII wire harness is necessary to connect. Also, please make sure to check the adaptable car list before purchasing.
  • The ADVANCE Unit is not necessary.

3.How to connect to both the ADVANCE SYSTEM and the OBDII connector

The SMART ADAPTER W can make available to transmit and display data both from the ADVANCE SYSTEM and the OBDII connector simultaneously.

  • After turning the ignition on, it takes about 10 seconds for the active indicator to start blinking, which means it is in the wait state of pairing and connection.
  • Do not connect a cigar plug wire harness to the SMART ADAPTER W.

Device Settings

Pairing setup is necessary to transmit vehicle information to an iOS/Android device.

  • Only one mobile device can be connected to the SMART ADAPTER W.

1.iOS device

Pairing your iOS device with the “Defi Smart Adapter” on your Bluetooth setup.
Please refer to your mobile User’s Guide.
When a 6-digit authentication code appears on the screen, please touch “OK”.

e.g.：「Settings」→「Bluetooth」→「Defi Smart Adapter」

  • When “Connection Unsuccessful” message appears on iOS pairing setup, Please wait for a few seconds until “Connect” message appears.

2.Android device

①Pairing your Android device with the “Defi Smart Adapter” on your Bluetooth setup.
Each mobile device has a different pairing method. Please refer to your mobile User’s Guide.
When a 6-digit authentication code appears on the screen, please touch “OK”.

e.g.：「Settings」→「Bluetooth」→「Defi Smart Adapter」

②Running the App, touch the menu key→「Communication」→「Defi Smart Adapter」, and then vehicle information will appear.

3.Device Alteration

①Follow the current device User’s Guide, remove Bluetooth pairing on your device.

②After thirty seconds from ①, try to pair a new device on its Bluetooth setting.
