An exhaust temperature gauge is a meter that checks whether the air mixture in the combustion chamber of the engine is burning properly. Particularly at high speeds, the best mixing conditions are required, and even the slightest imbalance can lead to engine or turbocharger failure or damage. It is essential as a barometer to measure engine condition and for fuel setting.
During sport driving at full throttle, the turbocharger and surrounding exhaust become very hot. For tuned engines, especially turbocharged engines, exhaust temperature is an important point for optimal settings.
The exhaust temperature gauge is used for engine ECU setting, which is essential for changing engine specifications, and for setting the fuel injection volume and ignition timing of the compressed air mixture. The exhaust temperature varies depending on the fuel concentration, but even with the same fuel injection amount, the exhaust temperature also varies depending on the ignition timing value. The symptom known as “knocking”, which damages the engine, is behind it and affects the engine feeling. For better setup, an exhaust temperature gauge is essential.

The exhaust temperature gauge is a guide for selecting the heat value of the plug. If the temperature is around 750°C to 800°C during normal city driving, select the No. 8 plug, and if it is around 600°C to 700°C, select the No. 7 plug. When running at full throttle for sport driving or at the track, the plug heat value must be increased. The increase in exhaust temperature will show the true value of the exhaust temperature gauge due to the increased heat value.
