1. Can I have one of
the temperature gauges in DIN-gauge
as an inlet air temperature gauge? |
Defi temperature gauges work best with liquid, such as oil and fuel.
We appreciate you do not use a Defi temperature gauge for inlet air
temperature.
|
2. I have a BF boost
gauge installed for months. When I switch to
differential pressure mode, the fuel pressure
gauge shows a
big pressure drop in the small fluctions such
as changing
gear and "on full throttle" to "backing on
the throttle."
But when I switch back to normal mode, the
fuel pressure
gauge shows no fuel pressure gauge at all
! Is my control unit causing trouble? |
Your control unit is working fine. About the differential pressure
readings,
Defi fuel gauge is designed to read small, sudden changes in the fuel
pressure.
The cause can be explained as follows:
There is Fuel Pressure Regulator, which is placed between Fuel Pressure
and Boost.
Fuel Pressure Regulator, based on Boost pressure, adjusts Fuel Pressure.
Since Fuel Pressure Regulator takes more time to calibrate than Boost
and Fuel Pressure,
Fuel Pressure, which is controlled by Fuel Pressure Regulator, has
to wait until
Fuel Pressure Regulator finishes its calibrating. As a result, Fuel
Pressure takes a little
more time to respond to the changes on the fuel pressure gauge, when
changing gear and full to back on the throttle.
See pg.102 at :
http://www.defi-shop.com/product/images/dlink-manual06064e.pdf
As you switch from differential pressure mode to normal mode, the
value
shown on the gauge has been changed from differential pressure value
to fuel
pressure value (differential pressure value is shown during differential
pressure mode).
Simply what is shown on the gauge has been changed from
differential pressure value (obtained by subtracting Boost from Fuel
Pressure) to Fuel Pressure value!

| 3. Can you provide instructions
for installing Defi-Link VSD X with a CANBUS wiring system? |
All Defi gauges including Defi-Link VSDX do not depend on CANBUS.
In other words, Defi-Link VSD X simply displays the signal data that
your
vehicle sends to, and works separately from CANBUS.
As for CANBUS, since it's specifications vary from vehicle model to
vehicle model,
we are unable to obtain the information from where/through which wire
speed pulse and RPM signals are sent. But your dealer should be able
to answer.
Please contact your dealer and ask about the wiring diagram for your
vehicle.
If they would not release it to you, ask for professional installation.

4. Defi-Link Meter <SI
units> DF00806
When I turn the ignition, the illumination
turns on and
the needle pointer sweeps across the gauge.
But after a few
seconds, the illumination turns off and remains
off. The gauge reads without illumination. |
Try this:
1. Check all individual wires/connectors in the control unit and gauge
to
make sure that there are no loose wires/connectors.
2. If you are using a control unit DF05001or DF05002, go to 3.
If control unit DF01301, go to 4.
3. Turn the headlights on and check if the switches of the control
unit light up.
If the switches lights up, the control unit is working fine. There
might
be a cause in the illumination wire.
If the switches stay still, the control unit might have a cause.
4. Connect the red (+B) and white (Illumination) wires of DC source
supply cable together.
If the illumination turns and stays on, the control unit might have
a cause.
If the illumination remains off, there might be a cause in the illumination
wire.
If the problem continues, contact the store or distributor near you.

5. I have a very old
car, in which the engine is not controlled by
any sort of computer. Am I able to use Defi
gauges? |
Almost all of Defi gauges can be installed in any type of vehicle,
whether or not it has a computer-controlled engine.
|
6. Defi-Link display
How can I increase the maximum temperature
of the water
temperature gauge? My car hits 248F so many
often. |
It sounds that not Defi-link Display but either Sensor, Control
Unit or sensor wiring
is not functioning as it is supposed to. Concerning the following
facts:
-- very few chances the water temperature reaches to the maximum temperature
level (248 F is a dangerous temperature!)
-- Defi-Link display just reads what the control unit is sending,
there might a
problem in your control unit , sensor or sensor wiring.
However, before you replace your control unit. . .try this:
1. While the meter is running, disconnect the waterproof connector
that
connects the sensor wire with the sensor.
2. If the display shows a warning telling that communication (wire
disconnection)
error occurred, it indicates that your control unit works fine. The
problem should
be in the sensor connection.
We recommend that you bring it back to the store where you bought
to find
out which device needs to be repaired or replace it with a new one.
|
7. Is the Defi Racer
gauge electrical?
If so, does it come with the control unit? |
Racer gauges are electronic gauges. But they run without Control
Unit.
|
8. The gauge runs its
opening cermony twice.
How do I make the gauge run its opening ceremony
just once
when the ignition is turned on ? |
The orange (IGN) wire connection may be causing the trouble. If
it is connected to
cigarette lighter instead of 12V, the gauge operates when the key
is
in the accessory position.
Please reconnect the orange wire to 12V instead of cigarette lighter.
Then, turn the ignition on. Does the gauge run its opening ceremony
just once
as it is said in the opening ceremony sequence?
If the problem still continues, please send us email enquiry.
|
9.Trouble with needle
pointer Case 1
For months since installation of a gauge,
the needle pointer has been bouncing.
Trouble with needle pointer Case 2
After installing the Defi fuel pressure sensor,
The fuel
pressure gauge stays at 1.5 BAR like forever.
|
Through we provide some simple troubleshooting hints in each gauge's
operation
manual, many of the technical problems that occur during operation
are hard to
find causes. To help us troubleshoot with you, please send an email
enquiry to the store or
distributor of/nearest your country including the following information:
1. When you turn the ignition on, does your gauge run its opening
ceremony? If it does, your gauge probably working fine.
2. Is the warning LED blinking to indicate there is any problem in
the gauge?
3. To check each wiring connection, free the sensor wires from the
gauge and control unit.
Make sure the wiring is correct.
4. Reconnect them again. You need to hear a click sound to indicate
that the connection is promptly made. Then turn the ignition on.
Then turn the ignition on. Does the needle pointer move at all?
Does your gauge show the error mode? If it does, the sensor might
have a cause.
|
| 10. The BF fuel pressure
gauge I installed only stays at 3-3.2 bar. |
The needle pointer of fuel pressure gauge runs in the accessory
position, in which
the ignition is on but the engine is off (since as long as the ignition
is on,
the fuel pressure is getting built). In the stop position (both the
ignition and engine are off),
the needle pointer should gradually drop and remain at 0.
Therefore, your needle pointer sounds not working correctly.
Please confirm that the sensor is connected to Fuel feed pipe, not
to Fuel return pipe.
Reconnecting fuel sendor can be dangerous. Ask for professional installation
assistance.
|
11. Can I use the connector
from the oil temperature sensor to
replace my melted connector on my Exhaust
Gas Temperature sensor. |
You can use the connector of oil temperature sensor to replace EGT
(Exhaust Gas Temperature). Try as follows:
Before you start, please be careful not to damage your vehicle or
any sensor parts.
1. With a tool such as tweezers, pick the yellow insulator out of
the melted black connector of EGT sensor.
2. Pull the 2 terminals out of the black melted connector of EGT sensor.
3. For the oil pressure sensor, pick the yellow insulator out of black
connector.
Then remove the black connector.
4. Place the 2 terminals in first, then the yellow insulator of EGT
sensor in the black connector of oil temperature.
|
12. Can I use the sensor/sensor
wire
from a fuel pressure gauge in my oil pressure
gauge |
You can use the fuel pressure sensor wire for the oil pressure sensor
wire.
Though the oil/fuel sensor wires are interchangeable between them,
purchasing the repair part is more recommended.
|
13. Does a Defi-Link
oil pressure gauge work as
a Defi-Link fuel pressure gauge? |
The oil pressure gauge reads only oil pressure, just as the fuel
pressure gauge reads only fuel pressure.
Though their sensors/sensor wires are interchangeable (the meter wire
is
in common among Defi-Link gauges), the gauges are not.
If you have not installed the oil pressure gauge yet, we recommend
you
return it to the store you purchased from and buy a fuel pressure
gauge.
|
14. About Racer boost
gauge, is the below explation correct?
Wiring the connector with red (Vcc)wire, white
(Vout) wire and
black (Ground) wire to either cigarette lighter
or radio harness.
Also does wiring the orange (ignition) to
A/C harness work? |
Though you could wire the connector to the cigarette lighter or
radio harness.
we strongly recommend wiring to IGN (ignition).
If you wire either to the cigarette lighter or radio harness,
the gauge will run in the accessory, not with the ignition on.
Without the orange wire to 12V constant, the gauge does not run
its ending ceremony. As a result, the needle pointer of boost gauge
will not go back to 0.
Please ask for professional help for installation.because installation
professionals
have the detailed information of wiring diagrams for your vehicle.
They would be willing to assist you.

15. When my car is in
the state that the ignition is on but
the engine is off, the needle pointer of Defi-Link
meter turbo
rises slightly above 0 (less than 1 graduation).
How do I correct this? |
Please read and follow the steps below.
1)Turn the ignition key to ON, and wait until opening ceremony ends.
2)In the warning setup mode of Control Unit, select turbo
3)You will see the warning LED on turbo is blinking fast.
While it is blinking, press REC switch and PEAK switch (for Control
Unit II, press REC
switch and DOWN switch) together for more than 2 seconds.
4)Turbo returns automatically to REAL mode to complete 0 reset.
For your safety, Do not start the engine when turning the ignition
to ON.
|
16. On Defi-Link display,
the oil pressure buzzer warning goes off,
while the engine is not even started yet.
|
Generally, when the ignition is on but the engine is off, the oil
pressure gauge
reads 0kPa, which is the warning level for oil pressure. Therefore
the warning
buzzer goes off. It is normal operation.
|
17. The BF tachometer
I have installed does not get dimmer, but
keeps illuminating when I turn the small lamps
on. |
Is that because the illumination is set to dimmer cancel (the brightest
level for nighttime mode)? Press ∇ switch to confirm dimmer
cancel is NOT active.
If the problem still continues, check the wiring of power supply wire
to Illumination.
|
| 18. My Racer Gauge does
not work at all! |
Check the fuse in the power supply wire. If you connect more than
one gauge, you need
a fuse for the IGN and +B wire of each gauge.
|
| 19. My Racer Gauge does
not run the opening ceremony. |
Check the wiring of IGN and GND in the power supply wire.
If the fuse is blown, ask the store where the gauge was installed
to replace the blown fuse.
|
| 20. My Racer Gauge does
not run the ending ceremony. |
Check the wiring of +B in the power supply wire.
If the fuse is blown, ask the store where the gauge was installed
to replace the blown fuse.
|
| 20. Defi-Link Meter turbo
gauge doesn't point at 0 while ignition is on and engine is stopped. |
|
For user of Control Unit l and Control unit ll
Please read and follow the steps below.
1)Turn the ignition on. Please DO NOT start the engine.
2)During the WARNING set mode, select Boost gauge.
3)If you use Control unit l, press REC switch and PEAK switch at
the same time for more than 2 seconds. If you use Control unit ll,
press REC switch and DOWN switch at the same time.
4)After reset is done, the gauge goes back to Real mode automatically.
